B.Sc Nautical Science Course EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION (1) Pass in 10+2 or equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with a PCM aggregate of not less than 55%. or (2) With Physics as individual subject in one of the year, B.Sc.in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year. |

Degree from I.I.T or from a college recognized by AICTE. and should have passed in the English language as a subject, at either 10th or 12th standard or in the Degree/Diploma course, conducted by the Board or any University with not less than 50% marks. AGE LIMIT Minimum-17 1/2 years PHYSICAL STANDARDS Medically fit as per the standards set by M. S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000. EYESIGHT 6/6 in each eye without visual aids. Normal colour vision. Candidates have to undergo a full eyesight test conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department before being finally selected for the course. |

NATURE OF JOB Shipping is an International industry employing seafarers of different nationalities, trained to high professional standards. Merchant ships require qualified and competent personnel to man various service and systems on Board. They are responsible for safe navigation, cargo handling and allied duties. They are employed in the deck department of the ship and are normally called "Cadet". They undertake the routine maintenance of the vessel including chipping, painting, greasing, repairs to the Ship's hull, superstructure. They are trained to operate the deck machinery like cranes, derricks and also undertake the steering of the vessel at sea. At sea they are employed as look outs on the bridge under the officer on duty. |

JOB PROSPECTS After passing out from the academy and obtaining the CDC from the Shipping Master, the candidates qualify to take up employment as seamen aboard a ship of National or international flag on their own. Due to vast increase in the sea transportation there is a potential of job opportunities for seafarers both in Indian and Foreign Shipping companies. |
